Whilst researching, i found some very interesting information from a lot of primary resources. Here's the results that i came up with.

What is the Apple iPhone 6?
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are iOS smartphones developed by Apple Inc. The devices are part of the iPhone series, and were released on September 19, 2014 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_6)
The iPhone® name has been used for a number of products, but is best known as thesmartphone line released in 2007 by Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc. (http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-an-iphone.htm)
The iPhone is a mobile phone with Wi-Fi made by Apple Inc. It does many things that a computer can do, but is small enough to fit in someone's hand. It is a mobile smartphone, meaning that it makes calls without wires. It can access theInternet as well. Like an iPod, it plays music and videos that have been put on it from a big computer, which is called syncing. It also has a calendar and camera, and can send text messages. People use the iPhone by touching the screen with a finger or two. This is done by tapping, dragging, and even typing on a keyboard shown on the screen. (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone)
When and where did this even take place?
September 9th at Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino, 4th Floor, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014, United States
Why was the album given out for 'free'?
Marcio Jose Sanchez—AP |
- To promote their tour for 2015, as they're going to be performing tracks from the album
- As a gift to celebrate the ten year anniversary of their iPod commercial
- To promote the release of the iPhone 6 and iWatch
- Because apple paid U2
"U2 fans rejoice – the band will hit the road in 2015 in support of their new album Songs of Innocence. "
“Only if the songs are great can you bear leaving home. We all have families and mates and... so you know, you're looking for 11 great reasons to leave home and I think we've got them." (http://www.irishcentral.com/news/irishvoice/U2-are-ready-for-their-2015-Songs-of-Innocence-world-tour.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+IrishCentral+(IrishCentral))
"You’ll have noticed the album is free to U2.com’ers from the band. It’s also free to everyone on iTunes thanks to Apple. To celebrate the ten year anniversary of our iPod commercial, they bought it as a gift to give to all their music customers. Free, but paid for." (http://www.u2.com/news/title/remember-us)
"But releasing the album free to iTunes subscribers does not mean the band has given the album away. “We were paid,” Bono tells TIME. “I don’t believe in free music. Music is a sacrament.”" (http://time.com/3313164/bono-u2-apple-itunes/)
"“The charts are broken,” he says. The old music industry has reached a low point and hasn’t kept up with the digital world. He wants to see artists’ reach measured by how much they’re listened to, by whatever medium or method." (http://time.com/3313164/bono-u2-apple-itunes/)
Who is Tim Cook?

How was the album given out/ placed on peoples devices?
The album was distributed to every iTunes and iCloud subscriber, being automatically downloaded onto their iOS devices.
"iTunes were now putting it automatically in the music libraries of 500 million customers in 119 countries around the world.
It would be, said Cook, 'the largest album release of all time.'"
"We just finished it last week and thanks to Apple and iTunes it’s with you today. " (http://www.u2.com/news/title/remember-us/)
"Part of the DNA of this band has always been the desire to get our music to as many people as possible. In the next 24 hours, over a half a billion people are going to haveSongs of Innocence…" (http://www.u2.com/news/title/remember-us/)
"You’ll have noticed the album is free to U2.com’ers from the band. It’s also free to everyone on iTunes thanks to Apple" (http://www.u2.com/news/title/remember-us/)
Why are people concerned about this?
People are concerned mainly with the whole privacy, and the fact that apple put something onto their iOS device without the customers consent.
"U2’s decision to team up with Apple to deliver the new album to every iTunes subscriber, unasked, raised valid questions about consumer choice and personal space in a world that routinely infringes on both. Moreover, while Apple paid U2 for the album, critics of the deal suggest this point may have been lost on iTunes customers who got it for free" (http://time.com/3393297/u2-apple-new-digital-format/)

"Forget about the iPhone 6 and the new Apple watch, every iTunes user in the world got a free U2 album Tuesday, as the band performed following CEO Tim Cook's latest product announcements." (Sept. 9)

Report on celebrity gossip talk show called Pop Trigger
"In a move to promote the new iPhone 6, Apple has automatically gifted ALL of their iTunes users a free copy of the latest U2 album, "Songs of Innocence". The effort seems to have backfired, however, with swarms of people taking to social media to express their rage and anger over the free album. Jonah Ray (The Meltdown With Jonah and Kumail, The Nerdist Podcast) joins Pop Trigger to discuss why people are so pissed, whether U2 sucks, and if this was a good move by Apple."

News report on U2 album and how to delete it from your iPhone
"As Tasia Custode reports, Apple is finding out the hard way that free is not always best. But have no fear, you can indeed rid your iPhone of a certain unwanted album.
Following the Apple Event on Tuesday, iPhone users began noticing U2's latest album in its entirety sitting in their iTunes accounts (depending on their settings). While the album can be easily deleted off a desktop, removing it from mobile devices has proven to be quite the task.
For Apple customers that don't have their iTunes account set to automatically download content to their devices, they'll still notice the album, "Songs of Innocence" sitting in their iCloud accounts waiting patiently to be downloaded.
Of course the offer of a free gift would have been nice had it been left up to Apple customers to make the choice to download U2's first album in five years. Many are complaining Apple has breached their privacy by pushing unwanted content directly to all their users."
