Following up from the meeting that i had with Joe, i took to the internet to do some research into boxing adverts/promos in order to get some form of inspiration as to what i could create, but also to understand the industry that I'm creating the work for, what platforms it uses to push its promos, where does the work end up, what sort of numbers does it generate ect.

Whenever i go into doing any job, i try to find every possible type of video in existence in relation to what it is that I'm doing; also the level at which I'm doing it at, just to get an idea of what is already out there and the sort of views it's generating from the time of its release date.

Advert Analysis plus research

While conducting this research, because of the nature of the show that I'm creating a promo for, within the boxing industry it would be classed as mid tier event even though the show would generate a lot of money. Shows that would fall into this category would be your Stefy bull promotions, or you Goodwin Boxing promotions/ Carl greaves promotions and shows of that nature, which are all formidable platforms, however, their shows do not get television coverage like your Box Nation or your Match Room Boxing/HBO boxing, so the budget spent on 'visual' mid tier boxing advertisement would not be as much top tier adverts that are aired on TV - as the mid tier shows custom does not come from television coverage.

As mid tier shows would mainly rely upon the fighters as main ticket sellers; sometimes giving each fighter a minimum ticket quota to meet in order to get on the show (this budget would cover the away fighter and other costs) plus print based advertisement and social media coverage, they tend to not incorporate visual advertisements as their main focus point.
Shows that are on a TV platform are established brands, which not only can incorporate social media as another outlet for them to advertise their events, but can also rely upon their television coverage to generate money for them, whether it's by receiving funds from TV subscription, be it from box office bookings, or TV fee's for airing the fights, or even paid advertisement from sponsors ect plus tickets sales itself.
However, the essence of the marketing is not so focused on the fighters having to generate ticket sales in such mannerisms as if their on a mid tier show, as the platform they're on would market the fights themselves being that it's an already established brand and platform for top tier boxing, so what would happen is each main fight may have its own advert created for it to generate hype for the show.

Baring all this in mind, when i was researching for boxing promos i discovered a variety of different stylised advertisements. In the mid tier section, there were very basic adverts such as a video slide show of the events flyer and pictures of the fighters on the lineup with music in the background, all the way unto top tier adverts which had the boxers dressing up and acting out roles, or would have a miniature documentary promos for the build up towards their fights. However, a key thing i noticed is that with top tier, they would mainly focus on individual adverts for main fights; where their budget would allow for it, whereas mid tier most the time would try and get all their event fighters on the advert; whether it by via video slideshow or if they train from out the same camp/area - or have been featured on that show/platform before (previous event footage), in order to make the video more effective for them and get the fighters on the event to share the video (they would have a reason where they're featured in the advert)

That aside, here's the videos that i found, they range from:

Video slide show
Commentary with highlight reel
Highlight reel
Event video/promo
Training camp video
Celebrity feature promoting event
Mini documentary - lead up to event
Pre interview with highlight reel
Role play scenario into highlight reel
Specific fighter promotion video in style of documentary

Where the promoter said that he may want commentary, i done a further search to see if i could find an advert which words was specifically crafted for a show with multiple fighters on it. I only managed to find one advert which was not a video but a radio advert.

All of this research has definitely helped me! It will definitely be useful on making creative decisions whether if its during production or post production.
